Review | Apple iPad – new Toys for big children

Ok, I was short on time the last couple of days, but still, I couldn’t let the occasion pass and not debate upon the new Apple’s baby the “great” “all new technology” “smartest thing we’ve ever worked on” and all other epithets the gadget received from the producer and the Apple fans. {can’t stop thinking about the iPad presentation and the guys trying to convince me that they started with a price that’s affordable for everybody: “only 500 bucks”| didn’t they say the same thing about the iPhone first gen???}

So yeah, this might be a re-scaled version of the iPod, and yes, it may provide a great user experience all over, but some things just can’t be ignored when you look at it’s features. So here we go:

1. No multi-tasking

How annoying is that??? We’re in the XXI century for god sakes, and Apple still can’t understand that multi-tasking is a must in their freaking devices… slow pokes (guess they compensated with the multi million touch screen sensors)

2. A touch keyboard

I know some of you will argue with me on this one, but let’s be realistic this is going to be hard to use, it’s not like an iPod or something smaller, it’s a big screen that you’ll hold on your knees when sitting in bed or couch or whatever.

3. No Flash Player … Again

It seems to me that the Apple team not only ignores what the users need, but they avoid it on purpose. I mean c’mon, we’re crying for Flash since the iPhone first gen (by the way, I have one of those, that’s why I still pop it in) and still no change there. Lucky with the SDK releases that allows developers to patch some deficiencies.

4. No built in camera

Why? Why would you create something so potent, and leave that aside? Well, probably they didn’t thought about a user that buys a iPad and doesn’t have a iPod 3G or an iPhone 3GS… that actually makes sense, right? … wrong!!!

5. The Big Bad Adapters

Of course, if you really are ambitious and wand to compensate for some of the flaws, you can buy some adapters. You can even plug a camera into this thing, but of course, you will need a big ugly adapter for that. Oh, did I mention that this piece of work doesn’t have a USB? My bad, it doesn’t… it need and adapter. Oh dear, I actually like how this sounds. I need an adapter please!

6. Don’t like the AppStore? You have no choice.. or do you?

Ok, as we’re all accustomed, Apple is a bit ego-tistic, it only likes its kind, and nothing less. So if you need apps, then you’re in a great disadvantage, cause know what? you can’t have ‘em elsewhere bro’. They’re all available in the AppStore, so dream on. Ok, when the OS will be hacked, and the Installous will be available for the iPad you’ll probably get almost every app for free, but that will take a while.

So unless you really need this… or want it really bad because it’s still warm and shiny, I suggest you think twice about the small investment of “only 500$” and instead buy yourselves or your lover something nice and useful!
