Set against a scenic and historic backdrop, the Florence Institute of Design International will again offer a unique  four-week architectural learning experience for aspiring and professional architects. The course, which will run from June 1 to 30, will usher students though different architectural periods to discover the key to the evolution of Italian architecture.



The course will be held mostly in the form of walking tours combined with on-site discussions, photometric analysis, as well as hand sketching. However, classes will be also held in Florence Institute’s elegant Baroque style palazzo, located in the historical center of the city. During which, students will also be treated to feature lectures on architecture and urban planning. Basically, the short program is designed to expose architects and designers to the significant architectural works of Renaissance Florence together with its relationship to the city.

The HOOD lamp was created for the Swedish manufacturer Ateljé Lyktan and is the design of Form Us With Love. As you can see below this is rather unique and elegant, far from the usual, boring traditional lamp. Then again it still keeps some of the classic in the design.

A word from the designers:

When FORM US WITH LOVE moved to its new premises in Stockholm it turned to Ateljé Lyktan to develop a light for its conference table. Designed to be both a light source and a sound barrier in the vast studio space, the piece, called Hood, forms a halo over the table, catching loose sentences in its thick felt.

Some people are innate designers – they can so easily visualize in their inner minds what their home should look like, and they’re able to translate this vision into reality without breaking into a sweat. Others leave the job entirely up to the interior designers they hire – they are happy to be told what works best for them and even happier when they love the end result. And then there are those who don’t really know what they want, but know that they can identify it when they see it.

My family and I have lived in this house for near on ten years. The kids are growing up fast and we need some more living space. We are quite fortunate to have enough bedrooms – that is why we chose this house in the beginning. The only problem is we only have one living room, so we struggle to meet everybody’s needs. When the kids have friends around we all have to sit in one room. This causes problems with the television and means me and the wife do not get any time alone or are not able to watch our preferred programmes.

So what is our solution?

We have considered moving but due to the current house valuation situation and the high costs involved, this is not an option at this moment in time. So the only other option is to extend. We will need to gain planning permission and get builders and before we know it, we are back to a very expensive project.
