The bucolic setting of this lovely private refuge is located in the tiny hamlet of Bachte-Maria-Leerne in the Flemish district of Belgium, about 10 kilometers from the country’s third-largest city of Gent. Gent-based architecture studio Wim Goes Architectuur designed the beautiful extension to this residence. The wooden addition sits above a new wine cellar and extends partly over the pond.

The natural, graying wood, the green vegetation and the blue sky and pond create a harmonious balance, accented by the slim vertical lines of the largest surfaces. Goes’s signature style combines intentional, unpretentious simplicity with functional clarity, and results in stark beauty with Japanese-Finnish undertones.

Designed by Felipe Assadi + Francisca Pulido studio this contemporary country house is located in Calera Tango, Santiago, Chile. It’s built for a happy family on 4.5 Ha area with fruit trees only in one hour drive from capital. Concrete foundation wall that what elevates house from the ground includes a swimming pool and a basement. The first volume consist of public spaces like living and dining rooms. This volume is mostly covered by large gazing or with Larch wood. The second volume at the same time is a glass-and-concrete box which features more private sleeping areas. Glass used in the glazing is a thermo-pane glass with a green dye, which filters out ultraviolet rays and creates the greenhouse effect. One of our favorite projects from last weekend’s AIA Homes Tours was the Randall House in Glen Park, by LSarc design team. The site, typical of San Francisco contours, slopes nearly four stories from front to back making the rear lower floors a challenge to daylight. The architects did a stunning job of working with this difficult site while reusing existing construction materials, incorporating FSC certified timber, and creating a healthy interior environment through the use of sustainable materials.

Perhaps the most dramatic feature of the home is the internal four story light shaft, which also houses the stair and provides natural ventilation via the ‘chimney effect’. A continuous structural metal ribbon floats the stair up through the shaft and further connects all four floor plates of this vertically oriented home.

Located in Mar Azul, touristic resort on the shore of Buones Aires, Casa de Veraneo is designed by BAK Arquitectos Asociados. It’s a little holiday home with minimum impact on the landscape, low costs and easy maintenance. The house’s site a gentle rise with a forest of pines around it. 6.50m x 10.30m is the area, covered with an reinforced concrete slab with a raw concrete facade. The house opens up to the landscape with a series of glass walls that connect forest with the house’s interior. There aren’t the main entrance in the house because it could be accessed at a number of different points. The layout of the house consists of two areas. The first one is open to the outer world, completely glassed, and enclosed in a wide wooden terrace, conceived to host the group activities. The second one is protected, the openings are more controlled, thought for the bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen. The furniture around the house is a pine wood. [BAK Arquitectos Asociados]

A contemporary house designed by Pb Elemental Architecture which built with the main principle on how to create a modern house on tight budget. The client is a large family and still growing so the house must have four bedrooms, two bath, living and dining areas, open kitchen, an entry corridor, large storage room, bookshelves for huge book collection, laundry room and closet, all of them must built on 1600 square foot site. The end result is a beautiful house with minimalist exterior and stunning interior design, the building cost just $167/sf and the footprint is only 790 square feet.
