The HOOD lamp was created for the Swedish manufacturer Ateljé Lyktan and is the design of Form Us With Love. As you can see below this is rather unique and elegant, far from the usual, boring traditional lamp. Then again it still keeps some of the classic in the design.

A word from the designers:

When FORM US WITH LOVE moved to its new premises in Stockholm it turned to Ateljé Lyktan to develop a light for its conference table. Designed to be both a light source and a sound barrier in the vast studio space, the piece, called Hood, forms a halo over the table, catching loose sentences in its thick felt.

“We want it to be a modular system with the possibility of growing however big it needs to be,” says Petrus Palmér, John Löfgren and Jonas Pettersson of Form Us With Love. The light is made up of separate felt panels that are assembled on site, making it a flat-pack product. Although the light was made exclusively for the studio, Ateljé Lyktan is now working on a production model.

The Relumine project is a very good-looking lighting concept that uses two old lamps at a time connected by a longer glass tube to light up the space around them. It almost looks like the two lamps, which are, in most cases, of different sizes, are talking to each other through light and the general effect is awesome. It kind of reminds me about Pixar’s Luxo lamp, without all that jumping. The Relumine is said to use less energy thanks to the glass tube than the two lamps combined would consume if they would be working separately which is another reason to consider this particular lighting design. All you need now are some old lamps to revive through the Relumine project.

Getting ready to head off to college? Be prepared for a decorator’s worst nightmare when you open your dorm room door. Cinder block walls, concrete floors or industrial style tiling, nondescript windows that let in little light, and furniture that has seen better days all await your arrival. Do not get excited about the room’s lighting either, as dorm rooms are notoriously under or over-lit with harsh florescent lights. While you may be stuck with the furniture and can do nothing about the window itself, you can add additional lighting to make your dorm room shine.

Traditional Touch

If you are not looking for anything fancy, invest in a few sturdy desk lamps. They can be color coordinated to match with your bedding or a throw rug that you will be bringing along. Place one or two on the desk depending on how much light you actually need to complete your homework. Another lamp can be placed on the dresser to add additional lighting there. A clip-on bed lamp is also a great idea, as it can be attached to the bed frame to provide reading light. While this type of lighting may not win any fashion forward design awards, it is practical and inexpensive while also doing its job.

Outdoor Inspired

Outdoor lighting has a whole host of options that should not be overlooked when thinking about designing the dorm room’s lighting. Small spotlights are fun to focus on ceilings or walls and can provide some much needed mood lighting. Remember the tiny white lights that were strung around the metal tree art on the patio? Bring them indoors and arrange them around your television or the room’s window for a fun and funky look; or hang them behind your headboard. While solar lights may not work the best for a dark dorm room, keep a solar flashlight on the windowsill to soak up any available rays and you’ll always be ready for a power outage.

Wild and Crazy

There is something to be said about wild and crazy dorm room decor. College is a time to let loose, and where else can you get away with decorating with a lighted, singing fish wall sculpture or a neon soda bottle? Embrace funky lighting in the form of LEDs and neon wall sculptures, for example, to make your dorm room stand out from the crowd. Place decorative lights on shelves and use tube lighting to outline your bed or the door frame. While hanging anything from the ceiling is usually not permitted according to fire marshal rules, you can usually use tube lighting to create lighted wall art by bending it to form different shapes and designs.

Don’t be disappointed when you see your dorm room for the first time. With some additional lighting, you will be able to quickly transform the feel of the room from cold and florescent to funky and fun while expressing your unique personality at the same time.

At first glance this might look like a ordinary glass table with a cool design, but there’s more to it than that. In the middle of the table there are solar panels. The table was meant to be an outdoor furniture for restaurants or homes, and is supposed to make use of the solar panel to store energy during the day. At night this table can be lit up, and the attached lamp can use the stored energy to lit up the area. This is Firefly.

Firefly Top

There’s a push button located in the center which is pressed to turn the light on. So whenever it gets dark, just like a firefly the table can be made to glow with a ‘natural’ source of energy. In addition to this, the lamp can also be used to highlight a message, symbol or word at the bottom of the table, since it also has the provision of keeping a stencil beneath it. The Firefly has been designed by Vuk Dragovic.

Well, probably this lamp won’t kill incandescent lamps altogether and at once, but it’s gonna slay some of them for sure. It’s called the “Allure” and it’s a pretty amazing floor lamp. It looks like a fantastic set of tentacles. Multiple light sources from the same lamp – that’s amazing! Amazing! And not only that, but while the lamp base is meant to stay in place on the ground, the lamp post rotates. Gorgeous, isn’t it?

The best part of the lamp is the remote. Why? Probably because it looks fabulous. But let me tell you about the remote anyway, ok? The remote’s got a power switch, a top light activator, a low light activator, and an RGB button. What do you do with that? You turn on all the different colors! At the base of the lamp is the source of the colors.

Beautiful! Piece of art and touch of genius!

A nice combination between glass light and color made by Evistyle might thrill your little eye. It almost looks like a child play.

Links of glass combine with color for the unique look of the Tessuti lamp, by Evistyle. Designer Simone Bellan created this stunning lighted focal point as functional art to illuminate not just your home but also innovative new ways to do just that. The contemporary Tessuti lamp features a cascade of shimmering glass, available in a simple crystal clear finish or in color variations including transparent amber or smoky-grey, and opaque white glass.

The shape of the lamp itself is customizable for width and length, and even as a graduated form that tapers at the bottom. Hang a wide rectangular fixture from the ceiling above your dining table; slimmer shades take shape as wall-mounted sconces and pendant lamps for above the breakfast bar; and go grand in the two-storey foyer for a dramatic, dazzling welcome into the home. Check out this modern lighting collection at Evistyle.
