A Relaxing Room Just For You

August 11, 2010 by Dan

Did your day start out on the wrong foot? You hurried your kids out the door then you ran out yourself, forgetting to grab your lunch and that all important brief case that had today’s notes for the meeting you are going to be in charge of? Once a day starts out like this it seems like it doesn’t get any better when you finally do get to work. You need to relax and de-stress.

You could go to the gym or to your yoga class but if they are full, you don’t have time to wait. You need a room in your home just for relaxation. The good news is that you can create this room in one day and without costing you a lot of money. Regardless of how much room you may have in your home, you can find a place for relaxation.

Find a room that you do not use very much, for example a spare bedroom. Your space may be a window seat in a room. It can be in the alcove if you have one in your home. You can find an empty corner of your master bedroom if you have a large bedroom. A living room that is almost never used is a good place. An attic, loft, or basement is also a possibility. As you see, your choices are endless. Find a corner that you can claim for yourself. Take everything out of that corner and clean it to give it a fresh clean start.

You will want to go to the store and purchase round rugs to go in your relaxation area. These rugs will be used to sit down on. You want to make sure that you that you choose a color rug that will be relaxing to you. Cool colors such as blue or sand colored are the best because they remind you of the outdoors, which for most is relaxing. If you don’t want to use these cool colors, you may want to try a warm tone instead. Red rugs or yellow rugs are warm tones.

You want to find some pillows that will match your decor. These pillows will just make it easier for you to relax. Buy or make pillows of various sizes so you will be able to use them for various reasons. Stack the pillows neatly in a row so your room doesn’t look distracting.

If your relaxation room is in an alcove or another area where you share the room, consider hanging up a curtain that you can take down when you are not in your relaxation room.

Of course, no relaxation room would be complete without candles. You need candles of various sizes. Place them all around your room and light them when you are relaxing.

To relax, you can read a book, do yoga exercises, listen to music, close your eyes and clear your mind. Do whatever it takes to relax and unwind. De-stressing from a rough day is not only healthy but also essential.
