Decorating Your Home with a Nautical Theme

December 26, 2010 by Dan

There is something simple and yet quite beautiful about decorating your home in a nautical theme. This theme can work well in any room of the home, providing a serene backdrop for your busy everyday life. You’ll find plenty of decorating options that will work well with an overall nautical theme. Whether you prefer decorating with simple objects from nature or beautiful sailboats metal wall art, you’re sure to love the end result. If you’d like to add the beauty of the sea to your home, here are some decorating tips to help you get started.

Choosing Nautical-Themed Art

You’ll find plenty of options to choose from when shopping for nautical-themed art. Depending on your preferences, you could focus on fish, birds, shells and natural nautical landscapes, or the simple beauty of sailboats. You’ll find everything from abstract kitchen metal art depicting the ocean waves or a flock of birds to whimsical Tiki hut sculptures that can add a lighthearted touch to your decorating scheme. You might find that you prefer the look of intricately detailed metal sailboat art, or the free-flowing look of a stylishly designed school of fish. To add a simple and yet stylish look, choose pieces that are made from plain or beautifully polished metal. Or, add a flash of color to your walls by choosing metal art wall sculptures that have been painted or stained. If you have a large wall that you want to call attention to, consider using a large metal wall panel. Because metal lends itself so well to the shimmering beauty of waves, you’ll be able to find large and eye-catching panels that will bring the beauty and awe of the ocean into your home. Utilizing an overall fish theme can also be a great way to decorate your home in a nautical fashion. You’ll find everything from large abstract fish art to intricately detailed and painted fish art.

Nautical Art for Every Room

Although some people think of nautical art as the perfect choice for the family room, den or “man cave,” it can actually work well in almost any room. In the kitchen, a fanciful and colorful school of metal fish can add a decorative touch to the wall. Metal seashell art or gracefully depicted fish, birds or other nautical species can add a natural touch to the bathroom. In the bedroom, a beautiful metal art panel featuring an ocean sunset scene or the majesty of the waves can add a calming and relaxing atmosphere. Beach-themed art can add a lighthearted touch to the patio or pool area, while lighthouses can add a traditional look to the living room or dining room. To add a colorful decorating accent, select a piece of metal wall art that has been painted in colors that blend nicely with the rest of the room’s theme. You can even transform a spare bedroom into a tropical retreat by using nautical decorating touches. Paint the room using beautiful tropical colors, add a few comfortable teak chairs, and accessorize the room with live plants and flowers. Then, add one or more well-chosen pieces of nautical metal wall art to complete the look.
