Fastest Hydrogen Car in the World Smashes 300MPH Record

September 29, 2009 by Dan

The Buckeye Bullet’s predecessor, obviously known as the Buckeye Bullet 1, currently holds the national and international landspeed record for electric vehicles, at 315 miles per hour. The Buckeye Bullet 2 team aimed to achieve the same goal for a fuel cell vehicle, and sure enough, they did.

The Buckeye Bullet 2 clocked an average speed of 300.992 miles per hour, with a top recorded speed of 304 mph. The Buckeye Bullet is powered by a custom 700HP electric motor, fueled by hydrogen and oxygen batteries, and is equipped with a state-of-the-art array of sensors and instruments.

For their effort, the team was rewarded with the FIA World Record, for hydrogen-powered vehicles. This confirms what we have said all along: electric, and hydrogen vehicles are clearly ready for prime time. Congratulations to the students of Ohio State University College of Engineering!
