Warm Up Your Home with Wrought Iron

August 26, 2011 by Dan

When decorating your home, wrought iron is often the perfect choice. Wrought iron pieces are often used to add a traditional and classic look. However, there are also many interesting ways to use wrought iron as part of a contemporary decorating scheme. From the functionality of wrought iron wall mounted coat racks to purely decorative items made from wrought iron, the market is ripe with choices. Whether you are decorating the interior of your home or looking for a way to warm up your outdoor living areas, here are some ways to incorporate wrought iron.

The Beauty and Functionality of Wrought Iron

Wrought iron decorating pieces can provide the perfect combination of beauty and strength. Because wrought iron is so sturdy, it can be used to craft a wide variety of functional, useful and decorative items. For example, you can find plenty of different styles of wrought iron candle sconces and holders from which to choose. Wrought iron is also commonly used for decorative grilles, coat racks, hooks, plant hangers, wine racks, and many other beautiful and yet functional pieces that can be used throughout your home.

Of course, not every piece of decor has to have a functional use. Adding purely decorative touches and pieces of art can be a great way to enhance the overall look of your home. Whether you’re looking to decorate the inside or the outside of your home, you’ll find plenty of beautiful wrought iron art pieces from which to choose. For example, a beautiful piece of outdoor wall art made from wrought iron could be the perfect way to accentuate the look of your patio or deck. Indoors, an eye-catching wrought iron grille can provide the perfect backdrop for a potted plant collection or a sitting area. Choosing art that reflects a specific theme can be a great way to liven up a room. If your kitchen, bathroom or bedroom has an overall decorating theme, try choosing a wrought iron art piece that accentuates that theme.

Wrought Iron Furniture

Because of its overall strength, durability and beauty, wrought iron is also commonly used in furniture construction. A wrought iron table and chair set can be a great way to provide a focal point in the kitchen, garden room, indoor patio or outdoor patio. For a subtler look, choose wood furniture pieces that include wrought iron decorating accents. You can also add a traditional look to the bedroom by adding a wrought iron headboard. If you can’t find the perfect wrought iron headboard, try hanging one or more wrought iron grilles behind the head of the bed instead.

Wrought iron furniture pieces can add the perfect touch to traditionally styled rooms. They can work especially well as part of a Mediterranean or Tuscan decorating theme. However, wrought iron can also complement the look of many modern decorating styles. In fact, the beautiful look of black wrought iron can blend nicely with almost any room style or theme. Once you’ve chosen a few great pieces of wrought iron furniture, accentuate their look by adding one or more pieces of wrought iron art to the room. This can be a great way to visually coordinate and tie a room together.
